Take Refuge Concert
I was recently asked if I would play percussion at the Take Refuge concert. One rehearsal later I joined the other musicians at Walsall Town Hall with bits of my drumkit and assorted hand percussion instruments borrowed from Belle & Sebastian.

The room was huge and was a bit of an acoustic nightmare as it had a very long decay.
As I was supposed to be playing I only took photographs in the rehearsal.
ISO800 - 1/500s - f1.2
I purposely travelled light and only took 2 lenses with me and no flash gun. Instead I tried to make use of the stage lights to back light subjects:

The concert sold out and the room was packed. Here's how the room looked from where Richard was sat:

As I was only able to take photographs in between song rehearsal's I didn't manage to photograph the entire band.
ISO1600 - 1/30s - f3.5
ISO1600 - 1/400s - f1.2
ISO1600 - 1/13s - f3.5
ISO200 - 1/30s - f1.2
The choir sounded amazing:

A rare action shot:

The stage light in this photograph was bright red:
ISO200 - 1/250s - f1.2
Does playing the 'Cello give you good posture, or does good posture help you play?
ISO200 - 1/40s - f1.2
The odd blobs of light here are caused by the 14mm lens picking up light from windows:
ISO1600 - 1/20s - f3.5
ISO200 - 1/200s - f1.2
ISO1600 - 1/400s - f1.2
On the night it was announced that so far, roughly £15,000 had been raised. This figure will hopefully increase with sales of the DVD.
It was an amazing experience and a privilege to be involved in what was a truly uplifiting evening of praise.
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

The money is being raised for the Africa Youth Camps charity which helps young people from East African, countries such as Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Zambia attend Bible based youth camps.
